Well you can pre-order whether that's the date or not. You don't need to pay for it immediately, just put down a deposit, therefore you'll just pay whatever the price is when it comes out, not necessarily what's quoted to begin with.
I've pre-ordered from EB's here in Melbourne, and they said that if a CE is announced I can upgrade to that, and if any pre-release bonuses come out I'll get them as well. Seriously, there's no harm in pre-ordering. It just means your guaranteed a copy when it comes out, whether it is before, after, or on that date. |

Stores will add random dates if there is no official one. It's common practice.
Exactly why, I've no idea. Maybe it's just policy that all their products must have a date, and obviously they want to have future products available for preorder as soon as possible, so they just slap something on there. I know I ordered a game in 2002 that was set for release in 2004, and got cancelled earlier this year. The preorder is still standing (release date 2008), and I'm keeping it up just for shits and giggles. My friend actually paid for his duke nukem forever preorder in like 1998 or something. So, yeah, like people said above; it's not official until it's official. |

Here's an even stranger one lol:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guild-Wars-E.../dp/B000Q5FVOE UK Amazon : "Availability: This item will be released on August 6, 2007. Pre-order now! Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk." I highly doubt that the UK would get this 3 1/2 weeks before the US. On another note... Google'ing GW:EN pre-orders brings up actual ordering pages from fry's.com and newegg.com. These 2 huge online electronics retailers have no reason to put these up for pre-order if they didn't get some type of information from Ncsoft. Add that to the information that Gaile said an announcement was coming very soon and I'd say that August 31 was a pretty solid date for GW:EN release. So far I've heard 30th September (Play.com), 31st August, 6th August...
6 August?? wow, could they move it to the 5th so I can have it as a Birthday present? Please? Pretty please? At this rate we'll arrive to: "GW:EN will be released TOMORROW!!! Pre-order now to avoid disappointment!" EDIT: Just checked Play and saw they've changed it to 31st August too. I don't know if any info is leaking from Anet but it does appear to be August... ______________________________________________ Also, please note that Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com (which I take it are the same company) have different release dates! (6 and 31st August respectively) Newegg.com are the best though: already Out Of Stock. Last edited by prism2525; Jun 26, 2007 at 04:06 PM // 16:06.. |

I thought the list price for Gw:EN was slated to be a bit lower due to the expansionary nature (i.e. not a "full" game). Was I mistaken? At Amazon, the list price is at $49.99, the same as the other GW games were when released. (Yeah, I saw the 'sale' price, but list is still the same.)

Since ANET is going to be at Penny Arcade which happens around August 23rd I belive, I doubt the game will be released in August, probably September 28, they seem to like releasing them on the 28th!

Not to be cynical or w/e, but what is the point in preordering if there is no preorder pack or release date? They haven't released the details on whatever different versions (if there are) they are making.
